NBC News’s Garrett Haake reported:

I think this was one of the two most important takeaways for the last hour. The insoluble nature of trying to get some people in the room to actually engage with the material and be present and take it seriously. Josh Hawley, who has made his disdain clear in public comments, does the same in the Chamber. All senators have the option of using the upstairs gallery as a seating area for social distancing. Josh Hawley is the only one taking advantage of this. He sits with his legs up and reads unrelated material.

In the 20 or so minutes that I’ve been in the chamber now, I didn’t see him look down at all to engage in any of the conversations that were taking place on the floor. Some of my colleagues who are in the chamber said there were a few moments talking about some of the people charged with crimes related to that crime in which he was involved. To make his feel for the whole process pretty clear.

Hawley has nothing but disdain for the impeachment process because his support for the false challenge of electoral college results was one of the forces that helped spark the attack on the Capitol. Hawley brought the big lie to the Senate because he thought it would make him look heroic to Trump’s supporters and prepare him for a 2024 presidential campaign.

It all backfired on Hawley. His already feeble hopes of the president are likely gone forever, and he is now known to the nation as one of the Republican senators who helped promote the overthrow of the government.

Josh Hawley shows his disdain for the Senate and duty to the country by pretending to be too cool for Trump’s impeachment trial.
