Pricey regulation agency of mine, – My Shingle
Hey there, old friend.
As you know, it’s been a heckuva year. We showed up in January with bright eyes and bushy tails with big plans to hit this new decade. And we got off to a good start with suitcases on all cylinders. That is, until the COVID-19 pandemic that struck the earth, courts closed and sent us and our staff home to ride them out.
And yet that was hardly a slip on the radar. Because we always thought itchy and foresighted, we have relied on inexpensive cloud technology for years and didn’t even have to break the pace to continue as usual. And while we weren’t necessarily that familiar with Webex, Zoom, and Google Hangouts, our technical comforts helped us acclimatize quickly, and it wasn’t long before we were witnessing on the internet or doing virtual mediations as conveniently as we were In the meantime we’ve seen many larger venerable firms and courts struggling to stay afloat, and while sharing our customers’ frustration with the missteps and pace of the glaciers, we couldn’t help but think, “We told you – maybe you should’ve been listening to us earlier. “
As we went about our business, we began to notice the stress our coworkers were experiencing as they struggled to bring work and kids home from school. As you know, some of us had these challenges too, but we were also able to control the response – working late at night or hiring hourly workers – instead of expecting the same schedule to continue, as if nothing had changed but the world did Would have been turned upside down.
Were we scared? In any case. Every day. Our colleagues at biglaw made huge payouts and some were considering selling their homes. And so many of our customers have lost their jobs, their businesses and, most sadly, their lives. We have seen tragedy and hardship every day.
And yet, in spite of everything, we were the lucky ones. That’s because we knew with the utmost certainty that we would make it. After all, we drew a Fast-One on the day we opened the store. creating something out of nothing, light out of the darkness, a highway out of a road into nowhere. Our journey through the pandemic has not always been nice; often we slipped through the mud – but one step before the other we emerged on the other side.
My law firm knew from the day we met that we would be waiting for a crazy ride. But as long as we bet on ourselves we can survive anything. Looks like we have.
To an unknown future – the very best.
Happy holidays, shinglers. We’ll be taking a break next week. Hope you find time to celebrate and enjoy the rest of this year.
