On the Regulation 200 Agency to really get a lady of shade as her international chair

Shauna Clark

On January 1st, an Am Law 200 firm will actually be headed by a woman of color. According to a report by the National Association of Women Lawyers, while it is true that women in general, and women of skin color in particular, are making gains in the legal profession at an “ice age”, there is some good news. Norton Rose Fulbright announced yesterday that partner Shauna Clark will assume the position of Global and US Chair from the new year.

The company’s statements about the appointment acknowledge that Clark has taken on the role. It will be the first time a woman of color has held either the global or U.S. chairperson, and she will be the only woman of color to lead an Am Law 200 firm, such as Gerry Pecht, Norton Rose Fulbright’s global chief executive said:

“Shauna will expand customer relationships through their collaboration and bring our company closer together with their unified vision. Shauna is the first black woman to hold one of these key positions in our firm and the only black woman to chair an Am Law 200 law firm. Our employees and clients will benefit from her legal expertise and excellent judgment in the courtroom and boardroom, as well as her invaluable perspective on issues of diversity and inclusion. “

Clark received her JD from Tulane Law School and her BA in Political Science from Louisiana State University. She is currently the US Head of Employment and Labor Practice and a member of the Global Executive Committee and the US Management Committee. Clark, who has been with the company since 1994, is also a member of the US Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the US Racial Equality Council, and says “making a positive change” will be a priority for her tenure in the positions:

“My immediate focus is on connecting with our customers and building those relationships through our world-class talent and service. I will also work with colleagues and clients to promote equality, diversity and inclusion in our law firm and in the legal profession. Following this year’s traumatic events in the US and other parts of the world, positive change is an even greater priority at Norton Rose Fulbright and in our communities. “

And Jeff Cody, the company’s US Managing Partner, expressed his support for Clark:

“Shauna is a gifted leader, dynamic communicator, and trusted advisor. As our new global and US chairperson, Shauna will bring her passion for the firm and legal practice to client relationships in the US and around the world. We have many exciting plans for Norton Rose Fulbright and we are excited to have Shauna in these roles. “

The Global Chair is a one-year role that varies regionally, and the US Chairperson position has a four-year term.

Congratulations to Clark!
